We enjoyed quite a variety of activities with grandchildren this summer.

Kate is 13 months old now, and easily expresses happiness.

She is proud to be walking across the kitchen pushing this cart, using it for support. She looks a lot like her mother at that age.



Samantha, age four, still loves being pushed on a swing.



She is proud to be riding her new bike on the cycling path.



Then we spent several days at the beach. Angelina, age seven, enjoyed running and splashing in the waves.



Samantha also enjoyed playing with the waves. She had earlier been knocked down by a strong wave, so she then learned to study them carefully, play with them and run up the beach when she saw a strong one coming.



When the tide was low and rising we all got involved in building a sand castle with a wall to defend it from the waves. About an hour later the sea breached the defences.



The next day another sand castle was built. Facing the beach is the hotel we stayed in. We had the two rooms on the top floor, directly above Samantha's head in this picture.



In the swimming pool, Angelina said she couldn't do the breast stroke. After showing her briefly, she practised. First it was one breast stroke followed by dog paddles, then it was three breast strokes, and soon she was confident.



The breast stroke allowed her to swim across the pool several times.



Sometimes girls like to be silly, particularly when their Grandaddy is trying to get some pictures.



One morning from the hotel balcony we saw dolphins swimming north just off shore. There were dozens or hundreds of them but it is hard to get an impressive picture since only one or two surface at a time.

Oliver, age one and a half, is watching his big brother and cousin.



I snapped over a dozen photos of the four grandchildren. They were making silly faces and all kinds of goofy antics. This is the most normal expressions of the whole lot.

Another day we had fun at the railroad museum.

While hiking with Evan, we found some wild raspberries. He is holding one in his hand.



He found a "cave" (under an overhanging rock). A few moments earlier, he saw a frog and touched it before it jumped away.



Along the river he enjoyed throwing stones of various sizes into the water. This photo caught the stone in mid-air.

Oliver isn't old enough yet for, swimming, hiking and steam trains, but he enjoyed showing his skill with the slide.
