This is not an auspicious beginning of the eight-mile connection route recently found. It certainly doesn't look like a road junction today. But following the higher ground on the right of this picture, to the north-northeast, within a few hundred yards there is plausible evidence of an ancient road.

The standing water in the foreground of this picture is because it is a boggy saddle between two small hills. Drainage is via the stream seen along the left edge of this photo. That stream becomes a ravine within a hundred yards.
