Walking the West Highland Way Four or five months earlier Jennifer and Lawrence suggested that we walk the West Highland Way. Rosemary and Bill agreed to the idea, after wondering whether they could become fit enough. When Angela and Barry heard of the plan, they asked to join in. If you would like see some pictures taken along the way, click the photos link below. The captions beneath each photo provide a narrative of the journey. Clicking on a small photo opens a larger picture. We range in age from late 50s to the mid-60s, so several decisions were made quickly. First, we aren't athletes so we needed to walk a moderate distance each day. That meant seven to ten days to walk the entire length. The distances we walked each day can be seen by clicking the distances link below. Second, we didn't want to camp. We wanted a clean bed and en-suite facilities each night. The scheduling of where we stayed was constrained by when each couple was available. We chose to start in Drymen on a Saturday morning, missing the first 12 miles of the West Highland Way. If you are interested in our impressions of the places we stayed and ate, Rosemary has shared our experience. You may click the accommodations link below. Third, we didn't want to carry a weeks worth of clothing with us. That suggested using a luggage transfer service or taking cars with us. Our decision to spend time each evening shuttling cars proved worth the effort. Our reasons can be seen by clicking the shuttling link below.
