Pirate Gun

We found this 200-year-old flint-lock pistol while we were clearing out the home of an elderly lady who had moved to a care home. It had apparently been handed down through her husband's family by an ancestor who had served during the wars with Napoleon. The gun appeared to be complete, including a flint still clamped to the striker arm. After taking a few pictures to show my grandchildren a "pirate gun" we sold it to a collector/dealer of military antiques.

Below are some pictures with a narrative beside each one. Click on an image below to see a larger version of the picture. When viewing a larger picture, clicking "Next" allows you to look at the larger pictures one at a time.

Just two weeks after Evan and Angelina were talking about Blackbeard the pirate, I found this gun.

An elderly lady had moved to a nursing home and we were clearing out her house.

I carefully checked to be sure there was not a bullet in the gun.

The gun looks exactly like the guns pirates used.

But I don't think Grandaddy looks like a pirate.
