Grandchildren in July 2010

We had some summer vacation time with each set of grandchildren.

Below are some pictures with a narrative beside each one. Click on an image below to see a larger version of the picture. When viewing a larger picture, clicking "Next" allows you to look at the larger pictures one at a time.

Samantha is six and Kate is three.

At a Minnesota state park.

With cousins Jaylen and Dylan, sitting on a rock in the river.

Aunt Jenny took Samantha and Kate up onto a rock directly below the waterfall.

Sitting on a driftwood log. The highway bridge can be seen above the waterfall.

Kate is not wearing a happy face at the moment this picture was snapped, but overall she had a good time.

We then hiked down the river.

At the mouth of the river there was a gravel beach on Lake Superior. It surprised me that that deep northern lake was warm enough to wade in, though too cold for me to consider swimming.

After walking along the rocky lake shore a little way we hiked back up to the car parked near the waterfall. The three older children are still skipping up the path leading the rest of us. Kate on her wee short legs was having trouble keeping up.

At a restaurant that evening the children sat in one booth while the four adults were in the next booth.

Our visit ended with a backyard barbeque the following weekend.

In Durham nine-year-old Angelina was participating in a summer acting group.

Back stage they had to rapidly change among several costumes so she didn't have time to pin back the unmanageable wig.

At the beach in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Angelina and Even dug a hole in the sand.

At Cape Hattaras National Park, Evan, age five, thought he couldn't climb up to the top of the lighthouse. But he marched up the circular stairs very well.

He was pleased with himself that he got to the top, but that feeling wasn't on display at the moment the photo was snapped.

Evan got involved in the pirate war conducted by the Park Ranger.

Angelina playing with the Atlantic Ocean waves at Cape Hattaras.

Evan is becoming comfortable in the water.

The waves were strong so I wasn't able to get out beyond the children to get pictures of their expressions as they were playing in the waves. I would have been at substantial risk of being knocked down by a wave which would have soaked my camera in sea water. Suffice it to say, they were having a lot of fun with the waves.
