Torridon is a rather remote section of Scotland. This photo shows Upper Loch Torridon, a tidal finger of the sea. To get there one drives west from Inverness on successively smaller and slower roads until one arrives on a single-track road at the head of the loch, in the left-center of this picture. The loch is surrounded by hills that reach altitudes of over 3000 feet. Four of us stayed in a cottage for a week in September 2009. Four of the six days we were there, we walked along the coast or among the hills. One day was very stormy and we stayed in the cottage all day. One day we went on a driving tour to Plockton and Applecross. Most nights we ate in restaurants serving fresh local seafood.
